We are The Orchids, Tribal Fusion Bellydancing Orchids to be precise, we come from a land called Dublin, our own little wonderland…
An eclectic mix of Dublin gals fused in body and soul music and dance re-grouped to present The Orchids a tribal beylldance company. Providing alternative entertainment through the medium of dance and song.
“It’s not often one finds a truly unique act amongst the endless parade of Irish performers plying their trade in the dank venues of Dublin. But one recent evening I happened upon such an act, and not only were they unique but they were entertaining and sexy as well. The Orchids are a troupe of four tribal belly dancers from Dublin. But don’t be put off by that – this is no cheesy restaurant act being put on. In the low-ceilinged confines of the Academy, the Orchids danced their entrancing and slightly sinister dance to music which sounded like the Penguin Café Orchestra gone awry. The audience realised there are muscles in a woman’s torso which are sadly ignored in the wider world. The Orchids popped and shimmied across the darkened stage, lights glinting off of carefully-placed coins and chains and God knows what else. Performing six songs in total, each of the Orchids took turns to dance solo and in groups, including a duo of Stacey McPartlin and Debbysue Sheeran to Jefferson Airplane’s White Rabbit. Rather aptly, this was followed by a brief sketch from Alice In Wonderland as they were rejoined by Mags McGarrity and Jordanna Baker before blistering brass gypsy tune ‘Opa Cupa’ came over the sound system and all four Orchids finished their set to a fully enthralled room. Go see the Orchids when you can – they are an education in feminine power, performance, and modern interpretation of traditional arts”
